Born in Honolulu to Chinese and Japanese parents, Chad spent his K-12 years enjoying the outdoor lifestyle on the island of O‘ahu. After school activities included pole vaulting, outrigger canoe paddling – a special piece of Hawaiian culture – and water polo, which he still plays to this day.
Academically, he excelled in both math and sciences. His aptitude in these subjects would lay the foundation for his collegiate career at the United States Air Force Academy, where he played Division I water polo, and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Operations Research.
His focus on operations allowed him to hone his skills in mathematical techniques for analyzing data and optimizing results. These techniques served him well when upon graduation he was stationed on the Central Coast of California, at Vandenberg Space Force Base.
Basic training and his subsequent military career instilled in Chad a deep sense of honor and dedication to upholding his values.
